Ron DeSantis ends his struggling presidential bid before New Hampshire and endorses Donald Trump
SUMMARY: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis withdrew from the 2024 Republican presidential race, endorsing Donald Trump just before the New Hampshire primary. His exit leaves Trump and Nikki Haley as the remaining major GOP candidates. Despite building a significant campaign and having a strong legislative record, DeSantis struggled to compete with Trump, ultimately losing the Iowa caucuses by a wide margin before choosing to endorse his former rival. Internal discussions and a physically demanding campaign contributed to his decision. DeSantis’ endorsement comes despite past disagreements, emphasizing the need to defeat Joe Biden and reject what he views as Haley’s old Republican guard stance.
