SUMMARY: Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson has endorsed state Sen. John Horhn for Jackson’s mayoral race, opposing incumbent Chokwe Antar Lumumba. Thompson believes Horhn is better equipped to tackle the city’s persistent challenges, such as crime, infrastructure, and economic development. He emphasized Horhn’s commitment to oppose state interference in Jackson’s affairs, particularly concerning the airport. Despite previously supporting Lumumba, Thompson criticized his administration’s failure to secure federal resources for the city. Horhn, who received 48.4% of the vote in the Democratic primary, aims for leadership change amid Lumumba’s ongoing federal bribery trial. The primary runoff is set for April 22.
