SUMMARY: Mississippi State University is one of 10 land-grant universities leading a national effort to combat pesticide-resistant weeds threatening soybean production. SUMMARY: Tennessee Titans defensive end Jeffery Simmons is supporting Mississippi through youth football camps and public health efforts. After hosting a free camp in Starkville, Simmons helped unveil a naloxone vending machine at Jackson Medical Mall, providing free opioid overdose medication to combat rising overdose cases in the capital. Naloxone rapidly reverses opioid overdoses and saves lives by bridging time until medical help arrives. Simmons, featured in Fund Recovery’s “Tackle Overdose Now” campaign, chose Jackson for its high overdose rates. Mississippi saw a drop in suspected overdose deaths from over 200 in 2023 to 146 in 2024, partly credited to naloxone distribution. Simmons emphasizes youth support as key to the future.
