Record crowds expected to take to the air and hit the roads for Thanksgiving
SUMMARY: Despite inflation and holiday travel mishaps in the past, a record number of Americans are set to travel for Thanksgiving. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates extremely busy airports around the holiday, especially on the Sunday after Thanksgiving with an estimated 2.9 million passengers. AAA predicts 55.4 million Americans will travel over 50 miles, with heavy road traffic expected on Wednesday. A storm could disrupt travel plans, but preparations have been made with more air traffic controllers and better equipment. Airfare and gas prices are down compared to last year. After the travel chaos last December, airlines have improved their operations, with fewer cancellations reported this year. Complaints about airline services have risen, however, and airlines have blamed air traffic control for not handling growing air traffic efficiently. Airlines have rebounded in staffing since the pandemic, with an increase in flights for the Thanksgiving period.
