Prominent Mississippi Republican raises concerns over JD Vance’s foreign policy views
SUMMARY: As the presidential race intensifies with less than three months until Election Day, former Senate leader Trent Lott expressed approval of Donald Trump’s selection of JD Vance as his running mate. Lott acknowledged Vance’s intelligence but stressed the need for him to address his past foreign policy positions, particularly regarding U.S. aid to Ukraine. Lott disagrees with Vance’s indifferent stance on Ukraine, warning that a Russian takeover could threaten NATO countries. While recognizing Vance’s concerns about foreign aid accountability, Lott remains confident in Trump’s ability to manage the situation if elected. Mississippi officials, including Gov. Tate Reeves, supported Vance’s candidacy.

SUMMARY: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will not open the Bonnet Carré Spillway amid Louisiana flood concerns, providing relief to south Mississippians. Lt. Gov. Despite this, water levels remain in moderate flood warning and are expected to recede soon. Flood control efforts continue, with conditions improving by mid-May.
