Prominent Mississippi civil rights attorney prohibited from practicing law for one year
SUMMARY: Carlos Moore, a civil rights attorney from Grenada, has been suspended from practicing law in Mississippi for one year due to misconduct. The Mississippi Supreme Court found that he violated conduct rules by depositing $300,000 from a wrongful death settlement into his personal law account instead of the victim’s estate account. Moore claimed over $110,000 in legal fees from the settlement related to Jamaal Mallard’s death in a Jackson jail, but did not inform the victim’s brother about his share of the funds. Moore had previously faced calls for removal as a municipal court judge due to a pattern of misconduct.
