Powerball jackpot rises to $1.55 billion for Monday night drawing

SUMMARY: No ticket won the $1.55 billion Powerball jackpot on Saturday. However, over 4.5 million tickets won prizes, including ten that matched all five white balls to win $1 million each. Two tickets that included the Power Play feature won $2 million. There were also wins of $50,000 and $150,000. Monday’s drawing will be the 35th in the jackpot run and the first time in Powerball history that back-to-back billion-dollar grand prizes have been generated. The current estimated jackpot is the third largest in Powerball history and the fourth largest among U.S. lottery jackpots. The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million.

Gun used in Emmett Till murder now on display at Two Mississippi Museums

SUMMARY: Seventy years after Emmett Till’s 1955 murder, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History acquired the gun used in the killing. Owned by J.W. Milam, who along with Roy Bryant murdered Till after false accusations by Carolyn Bryant, the gun and holster are now displayed at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. The artifacts, donated by an unrelated family, help educate visitors on Till’s story and its impact on the civil rights movement. Till’s family expressed hope for more items to surface. The FBI reopened the case in 2004 but lacked jurisdiction. Till’s open-casket funeral galvanized racial equity efforts nationwide.
