Panola County Sheriff’s Department raising awareness to suicide among law enforcement

SUMMARY: This morning marked the 14th anniversary of the passing of former Panola County Sheriff John Bright, who took his own life. In light of this, the Panola County Sheriff’s Office is raising awareness about law enforcement suicide. They state that this is a real issue in today’s world, but fortunately there are resources available to combat it. The department has also had the tragic loss of Deputy Michael Downs and Deputy Eddie Matthews, both of whom also took their own lives. The department urges individuals to seek help if they are considering suicide and provides the National Suicide and crisis Lifeline number (988) for support.
