Pair of men, Mississippi business banned from offering tax services for money
SUMMARY: Two Mississippi men, Thomas Walt Dallas and Jason Todd Mardis, along with the business Capital Preservation Services, have been barred from selling tax services. They allegedly promoted a misleading tax scheme targeting medical professionals and small business owners, falsely claiming customers could claim unjustified deductions. These claims included deductions for bogus marketing fees to sham companies, family expenses, and rental income tax avoidance through home rentals to their businesses. The Department of Justice estimates the scheme’s potential damages could reach $130 million. Mardis has a prior conviction, receiving a 20-year prison sentence for abusing his wife.
