Ole Miss to bring traditional nursing degree to Oxford campus
SUMMARY: The University of Mississippi will be introducing a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N) program at its Oxford campus starting next year. This decision comes as Mississippi faces a nursing shortage. The program has been made possible by a $4 million grant from the Mississippi Legislature to renovate the nursing school. The expansion will allow students to pursue a four-year nursing degree directly in Oxford. The renovated nursing school will be located at the South Oxford Center, which was acquired by the university in 2017. The program is expected to enroll its first class of 50 students in May 2024.

Definitive agreement signed to sell Starkville hospital to Baptist Memorial
SUMMARY: Starkville’s only hospital, Oktibbeha County Regional Hospital (OCH), is closer to being sold to Baptist Memorial Health Care for $55 million after the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors signed a definitive asset purchase agreement. Baptist plans to invest over $86 million in hospital facilities, technology, and physician recruitment, offering current OCH employees jobs under the new ownership. The deal, expected to finalize next month, follows extensive negotiations involving community leaders and institutions like Mississippi State University. The sale ends county control since 1973, addressing concerns about patient outflow and revenue loss. Baptist owns 12 Mississippi hospitals, including highly recognized facilities.
