SUMMARY: 3D printing technology is being developed to create customized, all-in-one pills that combine multiple medications, according to Dr. Michael Repka from the University of Mississippi. This innovation aims to reduce the number of daily pills for patients, improve adherence to medication regimens, and allow customization of size, shape, and dosage. The method could especially benefit the elderly who struggle with swallowing multiple tablets and children, by making medicines in appealing forms. Although 3D-printed medication was first FDA-approved in 2015, it remains slow and expensive. Increased investment and research are needed to automate the process and lower costs for broader use.
