Ole Miss law professor reacts to Trump conviction

SUMMARY: Law professor Chris Green believes the verdict in Donald Trump’s hush money case could be overturned on appeal due to the questionable nature of one of the predicate felonies. Prosecutors accuse Trump of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. While falsifying business records is a misdemeanor under New York law, it becomes a felony if done to commit or conceal another crime, such as violating federal election law, tax laws, or filing other false business records. Green suggests the uncertainty of the underlying felony could present significant issues during the appeal process.
