Officers testify in FedEx shooting trial in Brookhaven
SUMMARY: Two white men are currently on trial in Brookhaven, Mississippi for allegedly chasing and shooting at a Black FedEx driver who had just dropped off a package at a home. The incident occurred on January 24, 2022, when Gregory and Brandon Case reportedly fired shots at D’Monterrio Gibson as he was delivering the package. Gibson was not injured. The defendants claimed they were following Gibson to get his tag number after reporting a suspicious vehicle on their property. Witnesses, including a police dispatcher and a detective, testified about the incident and the phone calls made by the defendants before and after the shooting. Gibson’s attorney compared the incident to the killing of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia. Gibson is currently still employed by FedEx but is on workers’ compensation leave and plans to file a new civil suit in state court.
