OCSD warns of a scam circling the area
SUMMARY: The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department in Mississippi is warning residents about scammers posing as department members and spoofing the office number. The department emphasizes they never request or accept payments over the phone, nor do they ask for gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or bitcoin. Any legitimate police business will always be conducted in person. If there’s any doubt about a caller’s identity, residents should hang up and either call the department directly or the 911 center’s non-emergency line at 662-338-1084. Residents are also advised not to share personal information like social security or credit card numbers over the phone.
