New security in place after Zimmerman escape, sheriff says
SUMMARY: DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas Tuggle announced increased security measures following the June 14 escape of inmate Joshua Zimmerman from a courthouse. Zimmerman was apprehended two months later in Chicago. Deputy Jailer Ronnie Hunt, 32, was arrested and charged with aiding Zimmerman’s escape. Sheriff Tuggle confirmed that they have rectified security weaknesses but did not disclose specific details for safety reasons. Zimmerman faces charges for attacking an elderly man and is also implicated in a death in Texas. Hunt has been fired and is now held at Lafayette County Jail, with additional charges possible.
