NASA’s Stennis Space Center hosts exhibit placing visitors in driver seat of space engine
SUMMARY: NASA’s Stennis Space Center in Hancock County has opened an interactive exhibit where visitors can experience the role of a space engineer. Participants simulate a hot fire test of an RS-25 engine at a console resembling the Test Control Center, using advanced software and displays to manage propellants. Guided by step-by-step instructions, they learn to operate equipment just like NASA engineers. The exhibit offers educational insights into the RS-25 engine integral to NASA’s Artemis missions and showcases real hot fire tests. Initially developed during a 2023 intern project, the exhibit aims to educate and inspire future space enthusiasts.

Mississippi State to churn out blueberry and sweet potato ice cream flavors
SUMMARY: Mississippi State University will introduce blueberry and sweet potato ice cream flavors at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) Sales Store in 2026. These flavors honor Mississippi’s official state fruit and vegetable, the blueberry and sweet potato, designated in 2024 and 2025 respectively. MSU students, guided by Associate Professor Shecoya White, developed and tested multiple recipes, receiving community approval, especially from stakeholders in Vardaman, the “Sweet Potato Capital.” The flavors support Mississippi farmers and the state’s $197 million combined production value for these crops. These ice creams will join MSU’s existing 11 flavors, available in various sizes.

The team benefits from key returners like quarterback Blake Shapen and linebacker Isaac Smith, alongside many new players from recruiting and the transfer portal. To bolster the defense, Mississippi State added experienced coaches such as Paul Rhoads and Mike MacIntyre. Lebby emphasizes internal progress and aims to improve markedly by the season opener on August 30.
