ARDOT closes exit ramps to test new system
SUMMARY: This week, multiple Interstate exit ramps will temporarily close as Arkansas officials test new wrong-way detection systems, part of a $55 million safety initiative aimed at preventing head-on collisions. The project, first reported in January, follows 21 recorded wrong-way incidents statewide. The system alerts drivers who mistakenly enter exit ramps, signaling them to turn around, while also notifying traffic management centers. If a driver continues the wrong way, State Police will intervene. Travelers will be warned via message boards. These overnight rolling closures will affect Interstate 630 East at Exits 6A and 6B through Thursday night.
