The Mississippi State Department of Health is confirming its 14th pediatric COVID death and the first of this year.
State Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers says the latest death, a child under a year old, serves as a reminder of the importance of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and up to date on boosters, to protect vulnerable individuals who may not be eligible for the vaccine.
There were four pediatric deaths in 2022, seven deaths in 2021, and two in 2020.
