A local group is being recognized for officially bringing back an old chapter for Vietnam veterans.

The Mississippi Coast chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America hosted their charter presentation today at the West Side Community Center.

The VVA is the only organization that received a charter from the United States Congress which was granted in 1986.

A chapter did exist on the Gulf Coast, but over time it eventually faded.

Thanks to a group of Vietnam veterans last year, they re-established their chapter and are committed to serving veterans and the community.

One arrested, one wanted in fatal Gulfport shooting

SUMMARY: A fatal shooting occurred in Gulfport on April 28, 2025, when suspects Paul Ravin Martin Jr. and Kevin Eugene James opened fire on individuals in the Holly Circle area. Three victims were injured, and 16-year-old Cobi Earnest later died from gunshot wounds. Martin, 23, was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder, Shooting into a Dwelling, and three counts of Aggravated Assault. He was out on bond for a previous drive-by shooting.
