Drunk driver who killed Canton teacher sentenced to 23 years in prison

SUMMARY: Jordan Leah Sullivan, 33, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the drunk driving death of Tyra Small-Jackson, a beloved teacher from Canton, Mississippi. On June 22, 2024, Sullivan, who had a blood alcohol content of .241, drove on the wrong side of Interstate 55, causing a crash that killed Small-Jackson. The teacher was named 2023-24 Teacher of the Year at Nicholls Middle School. Sullivan had purchased 20 mini bottles of liquor earlier that day and admitted to drinking.
