Monroe County works to improve fire rating
SUMMARY: Many areas in Mississippi and Alabama rely on volunteer fire departments for emergency services. Response time is crucial for safety and financial reasons, as it affects fire ratings and insurance rates. These ratings consider communication, equipment, staff, and water supply, with the latter being a major challenge for volunteer departments. Monroe County District 3 Supervisor Rubel West is working on improving the fire rating through communication upgrades, training, and coordinating between the 13 volunteer fire departments in the county. Retaining and training volunteers is also a key focus. The goal is to improve overall efficiency for emergency response.
