Mississippi voter registration numbers remain steady heading into Tuesday’s general election
SUMMARY: Mississippi has seen a slight increase in the number of active voters leading up to the general election for governor and other offices. From April 1 to Oct. 1, around 33,000 people registered to vote, with only 300 rejections. However, more than 32,000 voters were moved from active to inactive status due to not voting in multiple elections. Another 40,000 voters on the inactive list were removed, potentially due to death, relocation, or other reasons. Mississippi’s Republican-controlled legislature has enacted laws to centralize oversight of voter rolls and remove voters who do not meet certain criteria.
