In this episode of Mississippi Stories, Mississippi Today Editor-At-Large Marshall Ramsey sits down with Janet Parker from Innovate Mississippi. Janet serves as the director of Business Development and marketing at Innovate Mississippi. She oversees all marketing, public relations, and corporate fundraising functions with the ultimate goal of working with partner organizations and companies to grow Mississippi's innovation ecosystem — and the state economy.
She is a Mississippian by choice, heralding originally from Illinois. In her past life, she was vice president of public relations for Maris, West & Baker Advertising and a business consultant and communications coach working with Fortune 500 clients in the U.S., Canada and Trinidad.
If she looks familiar, she was the host of the Emmy-Award winning TV show, “Mississippi Outdoors” on MPB and has appeared on TV commercials, radio ads and print promotions. She also had an 11-year career as an award-winning pharmaceutical sales representative. In 2012, she was named one of the Business Women in Mississippi by the "Mississippi Business Journal".

Ellis, who will still be seen by many Mississippi Today readers who live in the Memphis broadcast area, will be going to WMC as their weekday morning forecaster.
He talks about his love of weather, his six years in the Jackson market and what's ahead for this talented forecaster. He overcame his childhood fear of thunderstorms to pursue a career in meteorology and broadcasting after graduating from Mississippi State University's highly touted meteorology program.

In this episode of Mississippi Stories, Mississippi Today Editor-at-Large Marshall Ramsey sits down with Dorlisa Hutton, Chief Operations Officer for SR1. SR1 is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose missions to provide education, health and technology to all through science and partnership. SR1 provides college access and success services by using their evidence based education model. Students are provided academic skills, social skills, family and relationship skills, recreation, civic literacy. Founded in 2005 by CEO Tamu Green, SR1 has served hundreds of children across Mississippi. Soon, SR1 CPSA will be opening in Canton, Mississippi as the first STEM Charter School in Mississippi.
