Mississippi State, SuperTalk broadcaster Jim Ellis to be inducted into Ron Polk Ring of Honor
SUMMARY: Jim Ellis, a broadcaster for SuperTalk Mississippi Media, is set to be inducted into the Ron Polk Ring of Honor at Mississippi State. Ellis, who began calling sports for the Bulldogs in 1979, credits Ron Polk for starting his journey there. Alongside former players Bobby Reed and Buddy Myer, Ellis’s plaque will be unveiled near Polk’s statue in the right field plaza. His career includes narrating the Bulldogs’ numerous achievements, including their first national championship in 2021. Ellis, a friend of Polk, has earned four Outstanding Broadcaster Awards in Mississippi. The induction ceremony is scheduled for April 6, 2024.

SUMMARY: Mississippi’s only major-league affiliated team, the Biloxi Shuckers, was eliminated from the 2025 Southern League playoffs after a 4-2 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits in game two of the Division Series. This marks the second consecutive year Montgomery has ousted Biloxi. The Shuckers finished the season 74-64, winning the South Division first-half title. Manager Joe Ayrault, who battled and beat stage 3 colon cancer during the season, praised the team’s effort. Despite an early lead from Jesus Made’s homer and Blake Burke’s RBI single, Montgomery rallied in the eighth inning to win. Biloxi’s next season starts April 3, 2026.

Delta State officials counter rumors as investigation continues into Black student found hanging
SUMMARY: Delta State University and law enforcement held a press conference regarding the death of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed, found hanging on campus. Despite social media claims of a lynching, police reported no evidence of foul play or assault injuries. Reed’s body was sent for further examination, with preliminary autopsy results expected soon.
