Mississippi State spirit squads bring home two national titles
SUMMARY: Mississippi State University’s spirit squads made a significant impact at the National Cheerleaders Association competition, where they won national championships in the Small Coed Intermediate D1A and Spirit Rally D1A divisions. Competing against over 80 athletes, the teams showcased a traditional coed routine and a game-day style performance. After two third-place finishes last year, the squads’ hard work paid off with two titles. They also had a successful showing in their inaugural National Dance Association competition, securing second and sixth place finishes. The university’s spirit director, Tiffany Fettinger, believes the success will continue to elevate the program’s reputation.

Public Service Commission fines city of Holly Springs for inadequate utility services
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Public Service Commission announced a $12,500 daily fine against the city of Holly Springs for failing to provide adequate utility services through the Holly Springs Utility Department (HSUD). The fine will continue until the city improves its services or opts to sell the utility. The commission cited mismanagement, including improper use of funds and poor maintenance, resulting in frequent power outages affecting about 12,000 customers, many living outside city limits. The commission may seek to place HSUD under third-party receivership. Despite leadership changes and cooperation from the new mayor, no viable plan to fix HSUD has been presented, prompting regulatory enforcement.
