Mississippi State Fair kicks off Thursday

SUMMARY: The state fair is finally here and rides like the Ferris wheel and drop tower have undergone inspection to ensure they are ready for fairgoers. There is a long process that the rides go through, including assembly, supervisor approval, and inspections by three different teams. Inspectors look for stress flaws in the metal, check bolt and screw connections, and perform daily inspections. The fair is officially open after the ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., and admission is free until 1 p.m.

The Mississippi State Fair kicks off Thursday and runs through Oct. 15.
