Mississippi prison guard shot and killed by coworker, officials say

SUMMARY: A corrections officer at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility in Lauderdale County was shot and killed by a colleague after they got into a fight in the parking lot. Both guards were on duty at the time of the shooting. The private company that runs the facility, Management and Training Corporation, released a statement expressing their heartbreak over the incident and stating that the facility is fully cooperating with local law enforcement. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will be examining the episode. The guards were not identified by authorities, and one was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was arrested by sheriff’s deputies.
