Mississippi Legislature to reconvene Wednesday for special session centered on budget approval
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Legislature will reconvene on May 28 to finalize the \$7 billion Fiscal Year 2026 budget in a special session. The regular session ended without agreement, mainly due to disputes over funding for special projects. Rep. Brent Powell explained the House demands all special projects be funded or none, while the Senate prefers large projects but no local funding. This stalemate may result in no special projects for the coming year. Gov. Tate Reeves urges lawmakers to resolve differences efficiently. The session is expected to last one or two days, with the House and Senate returning mid-morning.
