Mississippi lawmakers greenlight $1.9 billion economic project

SUMMARY: A special session of the Mississippi Legislature has approved a $1.9 billion economic development project in Marshall County that will create 2,000 jobs with an average salary of $66,000. Governor Tate Reeves called it the largest payroll commitment and the second largest capital investment in state history. The joint venture between Accelera, Cummins Inc., Daimler Trucks & Buses, PACCAR, and EVE Energy will produce advanced battery cells for electric commercial vehicles and industrial applications. The Mississippi Major Economic Impact Authority will help fund infrastructure needs, site preparation, and tax credits. The manufacturing facility will be located in the Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park Megasite near Byhalia.
