Mississippi House passes bill to phase out income tax, cut grocery tax

SUMMARY: The NTSB released its report on the May 17, 2023, plane crash that killed former Mississippi state senator Johnny Morgan. Morgan flew his Beech E-90 from Oxford to Arkansas for autopilot maintenance despite an avionics technician’s advice to delay due to bad weather. Hand-flying the plane amid overcast conditions, Morgan became spatially disoriented during an instrument approach, causing a rapid descent and crash that left him dead. No mechanical faults caused the crash. Morgan, 76, served as a state senator and county supervisor and co-founded Morgan White Group. Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves praised his loyalty and political involvement.
