Mississippi enacts burn ban at all state parks and lakes
SUMMARY: Due to the dry weather conditions in Mississippi, a statewide burn ban has been imposed at all state parks and fishing lakes. The ban, announced by the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, prohibits open fires such as campfires, bonfires, and burn barrels. The objective is to reduce the risk of sparking spot fires caused by floating embers. Violators could face fines of up to $500. The state has not received measurable rain in some areas for almost 30 days. Visitors to state parks and fishing lakes can still use propane or gas grills and charcoal grills.
