Trump praises Charlie Kirk as ‘great American hero’ during memorial service
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump called slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk a “great American hero” and “martyr” for freedom at a memorial in Glendale, Arizona, attended by tens of thousands including Vice President JD Vance. Kirk, founder of Turning Point and a key figure in mobilizing young Christian conservatives, was fatally shot at a Utah college on September 10. Speakers emphasized faith, family values, and doubling down on conservative goals to honor Kirk’s legacy. Kirk’s widow forgave the suspect. The shooting sparked a fierce debate on political violence, free speech, and has led to backlash against critics of Kirk within the Trump administration’s sphere.

NCAA eliminates spring transfer period for football
SUMMARY: The NCAA has approved eliminating the spring transfer period for FBS and FCS college football players, following a recommendation to modify the recruiting calendar. The new system introduces a single 10-day transfer portal window from January 2-11 for undergraduate and postgraduate players, replacing the current 20-day December window and 10-day April window. Coaches can still enter the portal within 30 days if their coach leaves or is fired. Players in postseason games after January 7 have a five-day transfer window post-final game. The rule aims to reduce leverage use for NIL deals and takes effect in the upcoming cycle, despite some coaching concerns.
