Since 1961, Mississippi has had only two confirmed rabies cases in humans and animals, both linked to infected bats. Officials stress the importance of vaccinating pets and avoiding contact with wild animals like bats, raccoons, and foxes. If bitten by a potentially rabid animal, individuals should seek medical treatment promptly.
