There has been significant growth and development seen around the midtown Hattiesburg area in the last few years, and Mayor Toby Barker is hoping this progress continues. The Jones Company started building its corporate headquarters in the area and has made tremendous progress. A road project on Highway 49 by Forrest General is underway and estimated to be completed by the middle of 2024. Mayor Barker says using the master plan developed a few years ago and the completion of some projects can help improve traffic flow in the area. There will be construction in the midtown area for at least the next year. Mayor Barker also says the roads around the Jones headquarters will be up for bid in a few years.
