Michael Morris takes over as director of Two Mississippi Museums
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) has named Michael Morris as the new director of the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. Morris, who has been with MDAH since 2016, most recently served as the director of public engagement. He has been involved in strategic planning, community meetings, research projects, event planning, and support for department leadership. Morris has a degree in history and political science, and has completed various leadership programs. He takes over the position from Pamela D.C. Junior, who retired in June. The Two Mississippi Museums have received over 500,000 visitors since opening in 2017.

SUMMARY: Ole Miss specialist Lucas Carneiro was named to the 2025 Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, recognizing the nation’s top college placekicker. A transfer from Western Kentucky, Carneiro impressed in his sophomore season after moving from Bowling Green to Ole Miss, earning Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year honors. He completed 18 of 19 field goals, including a perfect 6-for-6 from 50+ yards, and converted all 41 extra points. His 94.7% field goal rate ranks second among returning FBS kickers. Semifinalists will be announced November 18, with the winner crowned December 12 on ESPN.

SUMMARY: A statewide law enforcement effort in Mississippi, called “Operation Guardian Force,” led to 72 arrests related to human and drug trafficking and offenses against children, along with the rescue of 29 trafficking victims. The two-week operation involved 400 officers from federal, state, and local agencies, including the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Task Force and other specialized units. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch emphasized the commitment to removing traffickers and aiding victims. Partnering agencies included the FBI, DEA, and numerous local police and sheriff’s departments. Victim services were provided by organizations such as the Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence.

SUMMARY: Mississippi State baseball will open its 2026 season with an exhibition game against Florida State on October 18 at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola. After a postseason run in 2025 under interim coach Justin Parker, the Bulldogs fell to FSU in the Tallahassee Regional championship. The 2026 team, led by new head coach Brian O’Connor, returns few starters but adds several transfer players. The exhibition offers fans an early look at this revamped roster. Tickets go on sale to the public August 12. Blue Wahoos president Jonathan Griffith highlighted the event’s significance given both programs’ College World Series histories.
