SUMMARY: The WLOX News This Week segment, hosted by Dave Elliott, began by discussing a measure in Mississippi that would allow teachers to carry guns in classrooms after completing a gun course offered by the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Education. The goal of the program is to ensure that schools are safer, especially considering most school shootings happen within three minutes, faster than law enforcement can usually respond. The program is voluntary and includes a two-week training on firearms and self-defense.

Mississippi’s Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell talked about improvements made such as drastically reducing the backlog in autopsy reports, modernizing the driver’s license renewal process, and increasing safety in schools and on roads. Specific attention was given to the expansion of the Capitol Police, aiming to make Jackson safer without politicizing public safety. Tindell mentioned their work has led to a decrease in crime rates, especially homicides, and emphasized the importance of removing politics from public safety matters.

Here to talk about that, the crime lab and other safety issues Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell.
