SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) has received approval to replace stolen Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for victims of fraud. The theft usually occurs through scams where scammers obtain SNAP EBT numbers and PINs to access benefits. MDHS will begin replacing stolen benefits for eligible recipients, with the total replacement amount not exceeding the stolen benefits or two months’ worth of benefits. Most eligible households will receive replacement benefits within 10 days. Those who suspect their benefits were stolen can report it to MDHS. The department warns SNAP recipients of electronic skimming schemes.

SUMMARY: Ben Crump, attorney for the family of Demartravion “Trey” Reed, announced that Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp Autopsy Initiative will fund an independent autopsy after Reed, 21, was found dead by hanging on Delta State University’s campus. The initiative expedites autopsies in suspicious deaths free of charge. Investigations have been handed to the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office, following a request from Rep. Bennie Thompson. Kaepernick, a former NFL player and activist, supports the family’s search for truth.
