MCBB: Mississippi State, Ole Miss drop multiple spots in AP Top 25

SUMMARY: Ole Miss specialist Lucas Carneiro was named to the 2025 Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, recognizing the nation’s top college placekicker. A transfer from Western Kentucky, Carneiro impressed in his sophomore season after moving from Bowling Green to Ole Miss, earning Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year honors. He completed 18 of 19 field goals, including a perfect 6-for-6 from 50+ yards, and converted all 41 extra points. His 94.7% field goal rate ranks second among returning FBS kickers. Semifinalists will be announced November 18, with the winner crowned December 12 on ESPN.

SUMMARY: A statewide law enforcement effort in Mississippi, called “Operation Guardian Force,” led to 72 arrests related to human and drug trafficking and offenses against children, along with the rescue of 29 trafficking victims. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch emphasized the commitment to removing traffickers and aiding victims. Partnering agencies included the FBI, DEA, and numerous local police and sheriff’s departments. Victim services were provided by organizations such as the Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence.
