Man charged in Jackson park homicide claims self defense
SUMMARY: Daveon Lindsey, 19, accused of killing Melvin McNair Jr., 29, at Parham Bridges Park in Jackson, claimed self-defense during his preliminary hearing on June 11. Despite his claim, the judge ruled Lindsey would remain in jail, charged with capital murder, armed robbery, felony fleeing, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The incident took place on May 15, and McNair’s vehicle was stolen. Lindsey was arrested after a police chase and admitted to shooting McNair with a pink assault rifle, recovered at the crash site. Lindsey had McNair’s blood and credit cards on him at the time of arrest.
