Local Meridian Councilwoman, facing domestic violence charge, speaks on situation
SUMMARY: Ty Bell, the Meridian councilwoman for Ward 5, appeared on the city’s arrest docket on October 28 for a domestic violence charge. She claims she was never arrested and is a victim of false accusations from her husband, who was arrested for domestic violence in August. Meridian Police explained that facing charges is sufficient for an arrest designation, even without handcuffs. Bell expressed her frustration over being implicated in a situation she insists did not occur, attributing the claims to retaliation from her husband. She has not communicated with him since August and intends to continue her council role and run for reelection.

Authorities encourage safe driving on Super Bowl Sunday
SUMMARY: The 59th annual Super Bowl is this Sunday, and Jackson city officials are urging drivers to prioritize safety. With increased celebrations, law enforcement will be enforcing DUI checkpoints and discouraging distracted or impaired driving. The Mississippi Department of Transportation stresses the importance of keeping collisions on the field, not the roads, as alcohol-related accidents are a significant concern, with over 13,000 fatalities and alcohol-related incidents in 2022. Officials advise designating a sober driver, holding friends accountable, and driving distraction-free. The goal is to ensure everyone remains safe during Super Bowl Sunday festivities.
