Little Rock approves $2 million for 5 new garbage trucks after fire incidents
SUMMARY: A recent mechanical failure caused a garbage truck to spontaneously catch fire, compounding existing challenges for the city’s waste management. Currently, the department operates 52 trucks across 19 routes, but not all are reliable, leading to delayed pickups. Many trucks are also beyond their expected lifespan. To address these issues, city directors approved a $2 million budget for five new trucks, aiming to maintain a fleet of vehicles no older than five years old to improve efficiency and consistency in waste collection. The city is facing tight margins and needs dependable equipment to alleviate operational strain.
Some Little Rock residents are facing delays in yard and trash pick-ups due to recent garbage truck fires. The city is taking action to fix the problem.
