SUMMARY: The Perry County School District in Mississippi has announced that they have received federal grants to support projects that increase the processing, storing, transporting, and distributing of locally-produced food. The grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program, total more than six million dollars. Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson hosted a listening session at the Forrest County Extension Office to gather feedback from local growers for a state plan to administer these grants. The plan is currently awaiting approval.
