Lawsuit claims local plant expose Water Valley community to cancer-causing toxins

SUMMARY: Former employees of a manufacturing plant in Water Valley are suing Coltech Industries for environmental pollution and health issues due to the company’s improper disposal of the toxic chemical trichloroethylene (TCE). The lawsuit alleges that between 1972 and 1987, Coltech properly disposed of only 10% of the 880,000 gallons of TCE waste, leading to significant contamination of air, groundwater, and drinking water. Plaintiffs report severe long-term health issues, including cancer, and claim the company neglected to inform workers about the dangers. Yalobusha County now has one of the highest cancer rates in the U.S., stressing the need for corporate accountability.
