Lawsuit accuses Mississippi gymnastics instructor of sexual harassment, assault
SUMMARY: The Mississippi gymnastics and tumbling school, Intrepid Gymnastics, is facing a federal lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), claiming the owner, Austin Hall, sexually harassed and assaulted female employees, including minors, from 2019 to 2022. Hall, who has been absent from the establishment for two years, was arrested earlier this year for simple assault on a minor. The lawsuit alleges Hall violated civil rights and lacked proper training or reporting mechanisms for sexual harassment. Parents have expressed unfamiliarity with the owner, and attempts to contact Hall for a statement have been unsuccessful.

A short La Niña is coming soon. What does that mean for weather near you?
SUMMARY: The U.S. is on “La Niña watch,” with the Climate Prediction Center forecasting a short, weak La Niña forming this fall, similar to last winter. Despite its weakness, La Niña influences weather patterns: typically causing drier, warmer conditions in the southern U.S. and northern Mexico, and wetter weather in the Pacific Northwest and Ohio Valley. Last winter reflected these trends, though some areas like east Texas and Kentucky saw wetter conditions. La Niña’s strongest impact usually occurs in winter months and may also intensify the hurricane season, with NOAA predicting a 50% chance of an above-normal hurricane season this year.

2 Tennessee public buildings rank in top 100 ugliest in the U.S.
SUMMARY: A survey by the New Jersey Real Estate Network, involving 3,012 participants, ranked the top 100 ugliest public buildings in the U.S. Tennessee had two entries: Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum ranked 46th, criticized for its 1961 mid-century blocky design catering more to capacity than aesthetics. The Nashville Metro Courthouse barely made the list at 100, noted for its grand but stern, classical style. Kentucky’s Owensboro City Hall was 44th, while Alabama had five entries, the most by any state. The survey’s top ugliest public building was Flint’s Municipal Center in Michigan. Many listed buildings were courthouses or judicial centers.
