Laurel police investigate shooting death of pregnant teen
SUMMARY: A 16-year-old pregnant girl named Elisa McLemore was shot and killed in Laurel, Mississippi. However, her baby was delivered and is in good condition. An 18-year-old named Tavaris Atwood was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The police chief stated that McLemore and Atwood knew each other, but did not comment on their relationship. Both live in Smith County. The police chief expressed the emotional difficulty of the investigation, as the young victim is now deceased and the suspect is only 18 years old. Child Protection Services will determine the placement of McLemore’s child.
