Lauderdale man sentenced for threatening school shooting, violence against Black people
SUMMARY: Christian Blake Bunyard from Lauderdale County has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison for hate crimes and threats made via Snapchat. In May and July 2020, the 21-year-old threatened a school shooting, violence against Black individuals in Oxford, and demanded nude photos from a user with threats of rape. Arrested after a November 2020 federal grand jury indictment, Bunyard pled guilty in April 2021 to charges related to interstate threats and extortionate communication. The FBI and Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly T. Purdie prosecuting the case.

SUMMARY: Mississippi’s only major-league affiliated team, the Biloxi Shuckers, was eliminated from the 2025 Southern League playoffs after a 4-2 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits in game two of the Division Series. This marks the second consecutive year Montgomery has ousted Biloxi. The Shuckers finished the season 74-64, winning the South Division first-half title. Manager Joe Ayrault, who battled and beat stage 3 colon cancer during the season, praised the team’s effort. Despite an early lead from Jesus Made’s homer and Blake Burke’s RBI single, Montgomery rallied in the eighth inning to win. Biloxi’s next season starts April 3, 2026.

Delta State officials counter rumors as investigation continues into Black student found hanging
SUMMARY: Delta State University and law enforcement held a press conference regarding the death of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed, found hanging on campus. Despite social media claims of a lynching, police reported no evidence of foul play or assault injuries. Reed’s body was sent for further examination, with preliminary autopsy results expected soon. University President Daniel Ennis stated he has been in contact with Reed’s emergency contacts, though some family members dispute this. Reed’s attorneys, including Ben Crump, demand video evidence and an independent investigation. U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson has called for a federal inquiry into the case.
