SUMMARY: At a news conference in CMI, the city manager and interim police chief responded to a grand jury’s recommendations for investigating the CMI Police Department’s Command Staff and policies, citing troubling findings in former Chief Holland’s decision-making. Interim Chief Robert Enoo, appointed for his extensive experience, will lead efforts to enhance leadership, accountability, and training while restructuring Internal Affairs. The grand jury noted a culture of silence regarding officer misconduct and suggested comprehensive policy reviews, training improvements, and an evaluation of past misconduct. Enoo emphasized restoring community trust and working transparently to correct systemic issues within the department.

DeSantis called the ruling judicial activism and announced plans to appeal while expanding detention capacity with a new Baker County facility. Environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe praised the ruling as a victory for the Everglades and tribal sovereignty. The legal battle now moves to the appellate court.
