SUMMARY: The announcement today will allow transparency between Jackson Water and customers, with a proposed rate increase being the first since an order put in place by Judge Henry Wingate on November 29th. Roughly 56% of customers are paying their bills, and Jackson Water will start shutting people off for not paying. A lower availability fee will be offered to customers receiving SNAP benefits. Businesses will see the greatest impact with their water bills increasing by around $500. The process of proposing a rate increase and restructuring involves submitting a proposal to the mayor and the council, and even if it isn’t passed, the third-party manager can implement it anyway.
