Junior Auxiliary’s Toasts & Smokes Fundraiser set for Dec. 2
SUMMARY: Marie Roberts and Nicole Dy from the Junior Auxiliary in Meridian are promoting their upcoming charity silent auction and fall fundraising event. The silent auction, which includes over 400 items donated by local businesses, is set to take place online from Friday to Saturday. The event aims to raise funds for their community service projects supporting children in the area. They are also encouraging people to wear blue to show support for their organization and donate to their 23 and 2023 Challenge. The funds raised will go directly back into their community service projects. Tickets for their fall fundraising event at Castle Grove Plantation can be purchased through their Bidpal website.

Another lawsuit filed against Rankin County sheriff
SUMMARY: The Rankin County Sheriff's Office is facing a new federal lawsuit alleging that “goon squad” Deputy Christian Dedmon and others tortured a man with a K-9. The lawsuit, filed on April 30, names Sheriff Bryan Bailey and Dedmon as defendants, among others. The incident occurred in 2021 when Bobbie Adams was allegedly bitten by a K-9 named Voodoo after being arrested for a meth sale. Adams claims he was already handcuffed and not resisting arrest when the dog attacked him, causing punctured wounds and bone dislocation. Adams, who is serving time for the sale of methamphetamines, is seeking justice through this lawsuit.

MSU White Coat Ceremony
SUMMARY: Master students at MSU Meridian celebrated their achievement at a white coat ceremony for the 2024 class of Masters of physician assistant study students. Parents and supporters applauded as students received their white coats, symbolizing their transition from didactic to clinical training. After 29 months of education, students will graduate and become licensed physician assistants, ready to fill the void in the medical field. They can pursue various specialties, such as emergency medicine, surgery, family medicine, OBGYN, and pediatrics. The graduation ceremony will take place at MSU Meridian's Riley Center, open to all, tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Congratulations to the students on their hard work and dedication.

NALC Stamp out Hunger
SUMMARY: The National Association of Letter Carriers hosts the Stamp Out Hunger food drive on the 2nd Saturday of May each year. They ask people to leave a plastic bag of non-perishable items by their mailbox for carriers to collect. Last year, over 2700 pounds of food were collected. The organization hopes to surpass that number this year. Anyone can participate by leaving items by their mailbox on the designated day. If you miss the collection day, you can contact your local post office for further instructions on how to donate. Your support can make a big difference in helping those in need.
