Judge dismisses discrimination and negligence lawsuit against Mississippi coach Lane Kiffin

SUMMARY: DeSanto Rollins, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, filed a lawsuit accusing Mississippi football coach Lane Kiffin of racial and sexual discrimination, as well as negligence. The lawsuit was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills, who ordered the case closed and dismissed most of Rollins’ claims with prejudice. Rollins, who is Black, claimed he was kicked off the team during a mental health crisis and sought $10 million in compensatory damages and $30 million in punitive damages. The lawsuit contended that Rollins was not supported through his depression the way white and female athletes have been at Ole Miss, but the attorneys for the school and Kiffin challenged the validity of his claims.
